Will Gumroad customers flee due to the new fees?

Wow…last time I saw this many people talking about a fee hike was when Etsy did it in Feb 2022
. There was even a strike!I doubt that will happen but a lot of people are heavily invested into Gumroad with their time and product.
I feel for Gumroad. I’ll give them the benefit-of-the-doubt that they had everyone’s best interest at heart but the new global 10% fee went over like a lead balloon, over water.
What should you do if you’re a Gumroad customer?
You have three choices. (No stomping your feet. It isn’t very productive.)
Do nothing. Stay on Gumroad. You’ll just make less money.
Go to another platform and start over.
Build a storefront on your website (ie. WooCommerce)
Or, option 3 1/2…you could slowly add things to another platform giving Gumroad some time to maybe make a change while keeping your content in place. If they don’t end up changing the fees back or to another structure then you won’t have lost as much time as if you’d moved it all over in one big swing.
It’s so easy to get started on Gumroad that if you’re just starting out, maybe testing the waters with one product could be worth it to you. Gumroad is still an amazing platform with lots to offer.

I have been working out the best platform for me to sell my own digital goods and I’ve done a ton of research. One thing we hear time and again is that we should not put all of our eggs in one basket or build on rented land. I know this is much easier to say than do.
